About Compress SVG
Compress SVG removes comments and the whitespace between tags, and turns runs of spaces and line breaks into a single space. Paths, numbers, IDs and metadata aren't rewritten, so a file that was already written without extra whitespace barely changes.
Frequently asked questions
Will optimisation change how the SVG renders?
Shapes and colors stay the same, because only comments and whitespace are removed. Text can change, though: a space between two text elements, such as two tspan tags, is removed as well, so check SVGs that contain words.
Why did my SVG barely get smaller?
Most of the size of an SVG is usually path data, editor metadata and long decimal numbers, which this tool leaves alone. A full optimizer such as SVGO can shorten those, but that is not what runs here.
