About Compress JPG
Compress JPG saves the image again with mozjpeg at the quality on the slider, 75 unless you move it, and leaves out the metadata, including EXIF location data. Photos are turned upright from their EXIF orientation first. When the result isn't smaller than the original, the tool tries a few lower qualities, down to 12, before handing you the file.
Frequently asked questions
Will compressing twice hurt quality?
Yes. Every JPG save discards detail, and the damage compounds. Re-compress only when there's no original to start from.
What does the quality number do?
It is the JPEG quality from 1 to 100 that mozjpeg encodes with. Lower numbers throw away more detail and give smaller files. It isn't a percentage of the original size, so 75 doesn't mean the file ends up at 75 percent.
